Telangana government implements scheme for free electricity across state.
Revanth Reddy, in addition, launched a scheme offering cooking gas cylinders at the subsidized rate of Rs. 500, aiming to make this essential cooking fuel more affordable and accessible to the public.
As part of this initiative, households are now receiving ‘zero bills,’ marking the implementation of the scheme.
This move aims to alleviate the burden of electricity costs for eligible residents in Hyderabad. The scheme’s rollout signals the government’s commitment to providing essential services and support to its citizens.
Employees from power distribution companies have been observed visiting homes and issuing ‘zero bills’ to eligible beneficiaries of the ‘Gruha Jyothi’ scheme. This initiative was a key promise made by the Congress party in the recent Assembly elections. Officials have stated that families with white ration cards (BPL families) who have linked them with Aadhaar cards and applied for the scheme during Praja Palana will receive ‘zero bills’ if their monthly electricity consumption remains below 200 units in Telangana.
This proactive approach aims to support low-income households by reducing their financial burden on electricity expenses, demonstrating the government’s commitment to inclusive and accessible essential services.
On Friday, a customer in Hyderabad, who had consumed 114 units with a total bill amounting to Rs. 489, received a ‘zero bill’ under the ‘Gruha Jyothi’ scheme. Officials have confirmed that the billing software has been updated to facilitate the issuance of ‘zero bills’.
This process has commenced in Hyderabad and will soon be extended to cover the entire state of Telangana within the upcoming days.
To offset the costs of the subsidy, the Distribution Companies (Discoms) will provide details of the subsidy to the state government by the 20th of each month. This streamlined approach ensures that eligible households continue to benefit from the scheme without any financial burden on their electricity expenses. The ‘zero bill’ initiative under ‘Gruha Jyothi’ reflects the government’s commitment to supporting low-income families and promoting access to essential services across Telangana.
The Telangana Congress government commenced the execution of two promised guarantees, including the ‘Gruha Jyothi’ scheme, on February 27. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy also unveiled a new scheme, offering cooking gas cylinders for Rs. 500 each.
Two days after assuming power, the Telangana government initiated the implementation of two pledges, aligning with the Congress party’s electoral promises. During the elections, the Congress party had outlined a total of 13 commitments, grouped into six core guarantees.
Among these commitments, the ‘Gruha Jyothi’ scheme stands out, providing eligible households with 200 units of free electricity. Another key initiative introduced by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy aims to make cooking gas more affordable, offering cylinders at the subsidized rate of Rs. 500.
The swift action by the Telangana government underscores its dedication to fulfilling campaign promises and enhancing the welfare of its citizens. These schemes, launched early in the government’s tenure, demonstrate a commitment to addressing essential needs such as electricity and cooking gas, vital for the well-being and economic stability of the people of Telangana.
