The IPL fever started a few days ago and people are going crazy about the players and the matches. This year we can see a little more progress in the player’s game. Every IPL season, records are broken and new records are set and this time one of such records is Rinku Singh’s 5 consecutive sixes.
On April 9, 2023, in the Indian Premier League match of Kolkata Knight Riders against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, the Kolkata Knight Riders had a tremendous win that ended with one of its player’s outstanding batting skills.
Rinku Singh, a left-hand batsman from the Kolkata Knight Riders was playing the last over, it was KKR’s final moments of a 205-run chase; KKR was in need of 29 runs for one last over. The pressure was really high on the batsmen but Rinku didn’t disappoint a single person.
29 runs for 6 balls means a 6 for every ball or it’s a loss and it’s against the bowler Yash Dayal. Rinku Singh left everyone at the Narendra Modi stadium in awe by going all in for the challenge and hitting 5 consecutive sixes in that do-or-die situation.
Yash Dayal was left bewildered by the opposite player’s skills and gave full tosses and short balls. Rinku Singh’s outstanding batting gave KKR its awesome three-wicket win.
Rinku was born into a poor family of 7 people with his dad being the bread earner of the family. Khanchnadra Singh is Rinku’s father who worked in an LPG distributing company, it is the job that provided shelter to the family for a few years.
Rinku’s father used to go from door to door on his bicycle to deliver the LPG cylinders, the bread earner of the family was assisted by Rinku’s elder siblings in carrying the cylinders on the bicycle.
The family’s economic condition wasn’t that great and each of them had to take up some kind of job to assist their father. Rinku, being the 3rd of 5 children also wanted to help his father and was prepared to become a sweeper along with his brother who used to mop the floors of houses.
Although Rinku’s family’s poverty had his hands tied, he still believed in his potential in cricket and decided to follow his dreams. Rinku’s life didn’t start off with success, he had his tough times and faced hardships but he didn’t let any of those hardships drag him down or wipe that charming smile from his face.
The son of a gas delivery boy made his debut as List A Cricketer for the domestic cricket team for Uttar Pradesh in 2014. Rinku also was the leading run-scorer of the Ranji Trophy 2018-19.
His IPL career started in 2017 February when he was bought by Kings XI Punjab for the 2017 IPL. The following year he was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for 80 lakhs in the 2018 IPL auction. Unfortunately, in the 2021 IPL, Rinku was ruled out due to a knee injury.
And in 2022 after his recovery, he was again bought by KKR for the 2022 IPL. This time like a phoenix bird, he rose from the clutches of injury and got hold of his first Man of the Match Award in a match against Rajasthan Royals. And this IPL, with his splendid skills, created another record with 5 sixes in a row.
