Trinamool Congress MP Nusrat Jahan Faces Probe by Enforcement Directorate in Alleged Flat-Selling Scam
Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Nusrat Jahan found herself in the midst of a legal investigation as she appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Kolkata. The ED had summoned her in connection with an alleged scam involving the sale of residential flats. Here’s what we know:
The ED has registered a case against Nusrat Jahan, who is not only a politician but also a well-known Bengali actor. The case centers around her role as a director in a financial entity with questionable activities. This entity is accused of deceiving senior citizens by promising them affordable residential flats but ultimately duping them of crores of rupees.
A group of senior citizens lodged a complaint against a real estate company, alleging that they had been cheated by the company, which had promised them flats in Kolkata’s New Town. Nusrat Jahan’s connection to this company, where she served as a director, is under scrutiny in relation to the complaint.
Adding to the controversy, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shankudeb Panda alleged that Nusrat Jahan had defrauded people by taking ₹5.5 lakh from them in exchange for promised apartments.
Nusrat Jahan was summoned by the ED to its office located in the CGO Complex at Salt Lake, where she was questioned about her involvement with the company in question, 7 Sense Infrastructure Private Ltd.
In response to these allegations, the BJP wasted no time in criticizing the Trinamool Congress MP. Agnimitra Paul, the party’s state secretary, emphasized that if there is concrete evidence against Nusrat Jahan, she will face consequences. Paul made it clear, “In the Modi government, no matter if you’re a chief minister, a politician, or a movie star, there won’t be any forgiveness if you cheat the public”. Senior citizens entrusted their life savings, amounting to crores of rupees, to Nusrat Jahan with the expectation of receiving a flat. Regrettably, they neither received the promised apartments nor their money. As the investigation progresses, Nusrat Jahan will face consequences if substantial evidence is found.”
The case against Nusrat Jahan has drawn significant attention due to her dual roles as a popular actor and a political representative. It highlights the importance of accountability and the legal system’s commitment to addressing allegations of fraud and deceit, regardless of the individual’s stature in society.
As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will unfold and whether Nusrat Jahan will face any charges or penalties in connection with the alleged flat-selling scam.
