Violent Clashes in Haryana’s Nuh District Leave Five Dead, Curfew Imposed
In a tragic turn of events, Haryana’s Nuh district witnessed violent clashes between two groups near Gurugram, leading to five deaths and several injuries. The unrest started when a procession organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, known as the ‘Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra,’ was halted by a group of young men near Khedla Mod in Nuh. The situation escalated as stones were pelted at the procession, and even police vehicles were damaged.
As the violence unfolded, two home guards were shot dead, and around a dozen policemen sustained injuries in the clashes. The situation became increasingly tense, prompting the district administration to announce the closure of all schools, colleges, and educational institutes in Gurugram for safety reasons.
Amidst the chaos, a mosque in Gurugram’s Sector 57 area was attacked, resulting in the death of a man, bringing the total death toll to five. The unrest spread rapidly, leading to authorities imposing a curfew in Nuh to control the situation. Haryana’s Home Minister, Anil Vij, expressed concerns that the violence may have been “engineered,” suggesting a possible conspiracy behind the clashes.
The violent incidents have prompted the authorities to implement Section 144 in the affected areas. Under this section, the gathering of five or more people is prohibited in specified locations, aiming to restore peace and prevent further escalation.
The clashes left a trail of destruction, with 23 people injured, including ten policemen. The police responded by registering 11 FIRs and detaining 27 individuals allegedly involved in the rioting. Over 120 vehicles were damaged during the violence, with 50 of them, including eight police vehicles, set ablaze.
In response to the situation, Haryana’s minister, Ch. Kanwar Pal, assured that the authorities would take action against those responsible for instigating the violence. He acknowledged the longstanding tradition of processions but condemned the unfortunate events that unfolded on that day.
One of the deceased victims was identified as Saad, a 26-year-old man from Bihar, who was killed during the clashes. Additionally, a mosque in the Sector 57 area was set ablaze during the unrest, further escalating tensions.
Gurugram’s Deputy Commissioner of Police, Nitish Agarwal, confirmed that there were attempts by some individuals to indulge in stone-pelting in Sohna following reports of the Nuh clashes. However, he assured that the situation was now under control, and the police were closely monitoring social media for any inflammatory content.
As the region grapples with the aftermath of the violence, educational institutions in the Faridabad district have been closed for the day to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The authorities are investigating the situation and have vowed to take strict action against those involved in instigating the violence. The focus remains on restoring peace and maintaining communal harmony in the region.
