Yashobhoomi: India’s Impressive Venue and Metro Expansion
In a significant development, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate Phase 1 of the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC), known as ‘Yashobhoomi’, in Dwarka, New Delhi on September 17, 2023. This massive project Yashobhoomi, with a budget of approximately Rs. 5400 crore, encompasses over 8.9 lakh square meters and boasts an array of world-class facilities. Additionally, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the extension of the Delhi Airport Metro Express line to a new station, ‘Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25’.
Yashobhoomi, a testament to the Prime Minister’s vision of creating top-notch infrastructure for hosting meetings, conferences, and exhibitions in India, is on its way to becoming one of the most extensive MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destinations globally.
This colossal project Yashobhoomi spans over 8.9 lakh square meters and features a built-up area exceeding 1.8 lakh square meters. Yashobhoomi includes a remarkable Convention Center, expansive Exhibition halls, and various other amenities designed to meet the needs of a diverse range of events.
The Convention Center, sprawling across more than 73 thousand square meters, encompasses 15 convention rooms, including the Main Auditorium, the Grand Ballroom, and 13 meeting rooms. This facility can accommodate up to 11,000 delegates, making it one of the largest in the country. Notably, it boasts the largest LED media facade in India. The plenary hall within the Convention Center is equipped with state-of-the-art seating for around 6,000 guests. The auditorium features innovative automated seating systems that can be adjusted to create either a flat floor or tiered seating, allowing for different seating configurations. High-quality materials, such as wooden floors and acoustic wall panels, ensure a world-class experience for visitors. The Grand Ballroom, with its unique petal ceiling, can host up to 2,500 guests, and it includes an extended open area that can accommodate an additional 500 people. Furthermore, the 13 meeting rooms, spread across eight floors, cater to a variety of meeting scales.
Yashobhoomi also houses some of the world’s largest Exhibition halls, occupying over 1.07 lakh square meters. These halls will be used for exhibitions, trade fairs, and business events. They are linked to a grand foyer with a distinctive copper ceiling designed to filter natural light through various skylights. The foyer will house essential support areas such as media rooms, VVIP lounges, cloak facilities, visitor information centers, and ticketing services.
The entire design of Yashobhoomi reflects a commitment to continuity with the outdoors and is inspired by Indian culture. Terrazzo floors with brass inlays represent rangoli patterns, suspended sound-absorbent metal cylinders enhance acoustics, and illuminated patterned walls add to the aesthetic appeal.
Sustainability is a key focus for Yashobhoomi. Yashobhoomi features a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment system that achieves 100% wastewater reuse, and rainwater harvesting provisions, and has been awarded Platinum certification from CII’s Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
Visitors’ safety is a top priority, and the facility is equipped with advanced security measures. Underground parking for over 3,000 cars is available, along with more than 100 electric charging points.
Yashobhoomi will also be seamlessly connected to the Delhi Airport Metro Express line through the new ‘Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25’ station. This station will have three subways, including one connecting to the Exhibition halls, convention center, and Central Arena, another linking to Dwarka Expressway, and a third connecting to the foyer of the forthcoming Exhibition halls within Yashobhoomi.
As part of the Metro expansion, Delhi Metro will increase the operational speed on the Airport Express Line from 90 to 120 km/hr, significantly reducing travel time. The journey from ‘New Delhi’ to ‘Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25’ will now take approximately 21 minutes.
Yashobhoomi stands as a testament to India’s commitment to world-class infrastructure and sustainability, offering a remarkable space for hosting conferences, exhibitions, and events while providing seamless connectivity through the Delhi Airport Metro Express line extension. This remarkable project Yashobhoomi reflects India’s dedication to fostering a thriving MICE industry and positioning itself as a global leader in hosting international events.
