5 pilgrims killed in Uttarakhand landslide, Kedarnath Highway blocked.
A tragic incident unfolded in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, where a devastating landslide resulted in the loss of five lives and brought transportation to a standstill. On August 10, a group of pilgrims was en route to the revered Kedarnath shrine when disaster struck, burying their vehicle under tons of debris in Tarsali, situated under Chowki Phata.
The catastrophe occurred when a massive portion, approximately 60 meters long, of the Kedarnath highway collapsed due to a torrent of debris and boulders cascading down the hillside. The force of the landslide trapped the vehicle, claiming the lives of all its occupants, including one individual from Gujarat. This heart-wrenching incident not only caused loss of life but also led to the severe disruption of transportation routes.
Swift rescue operations were initiated to locate and retrieve the trapped vehicle and its occupants. The efforts culminated in the discovery of the vehicle on the subsequent Friday, revealing the grim reality of the situation. As the remains of the five victims were recovered, including the person from Gujarat, the community mourned the tragic loss and demanded answers about the sequence of events that led to this unfortunate incident.
