A story about the charismatic Subash Chandra Bose, whose unsolved death
After completing his higher education in India, his parents, Prabhavati Dutt Bose and Janakinath Bose, gave him permission to travel to England to study for the Indian Civil Service exams. This occurred in the year 2023, on Parakram Diwas.
In opposition of British rule in India, Subhas Chandra Bose, an Indian nationalist who was born on January 23, 1897, became a national hero for millions of Indians. He was raised in a wealthy, large Bengali family and had his early education from an Anglocentric institution. He was born in the Cuttack district of Odisha. Later, the “energetic child” attended Ravenshaw University, which was formerly known as Ravenshaw College, for his academic education.
His parents, Prabhavati Dutt Bose and Janakinath Bose, permitted him to travel to England to study for the Indian Civil Service exams after he completed his higher education in India. It is significant to mention that his mother was a politician and social activist, and that his father was a wealthy attorney.
Bose achieved distinction in the civil services examination success
Unexpectedly, Bose distinguished himself in his first effort. He returned to India instead of taking the next round of exams in order to protest the British Raj in that country.
He collaborated with Mahatma Gandhi and the Indian National Congress to spearhead the nationalist campaign against British rule in 1921. He had steadfastly adhered to Jawaharlal Nehru’s leadership as the main figurehead of the Indian nationalist movement in the 1930s and 1940s throughout this time. Bose later assumed the presidency of the Congress in 1938 at the age of 40.
opposition to Mahatma Gandhi
Bose and other Congress leaders, however, start to disagree after a year. According to historians, Mahatama Gandhi and Bose’s ideologies never crossed paths. Gandhi urged Bose, who had the support of some Congress leaders and was planning to seize freedom violently, to engage in nonviolent negotiation with the British.
But a sizable portion of the members of the Congress Working Committee quit in displeasure. Additionally, Bose’s resignation as party president was a result of this. He eventually lost his place in the party.
Bose charisma at German
The British afterwards put Bose under house arrest. However, the overthrown leader left India in 1941 and travelled to Germany.
Bose looked to the Nazi party in Germany for sympathy and assistance in his war against the British. Japan, a German ally, gave him a great deal of help as well.
He oversaw the INA, which was made up of Indian POWs from the Indian Army who had been taken prisoner by the Japanese during the Battle of Singapore.
His strategies helped the INA soldiers defeat the British. Bose eventually had success starting Free India Radio. He used to engage listeners in his radio programmes in order to inspire them to join the independence struggle movement. His supporters began referring to him as “Netaji” due of his charm and charisma.
Unexplained death of Netaji
Bose, however, perished in a plane crash in Taiwan in 1945. Since then, a great deal has been said and written about the tragic passing of Netaji Bose. Numerous ideas, arguments, conversations, films, and documentaries have been made about the circumstances surrounding his passing, however none of these have received any concrete evidence.
Some of Netaji’s family members disbelieved the allegation that he died in a plane crash on August 18, 1945, at Taihoku airport in Taiwan after going missing in that year. According to a number of reports, Netaji was killed in a plane crash on August 18, 1945, after he boarded the aircraft at Taiwan’s Taihoku Airport.
Government report from Japan
In 2016, the Japanese government’s “Investigation on the Cause of Death and Other Matters of the Late Subhas Chandra Bose” report, which had been classified, was made public. It was determined that on August 18, 1945, Bose perished in a plane crash in Taiwan. The report was finished in January 1956 and delivered to the Indian embassy in Tokyo, but it remained classified and wasn’t released to the public for more than 60 years.
According to the report, shortly after takeoff, a propeller blade on the aircraft carrying Bose came off, causing the engine to separate from the aircraft and crash into the ground. Bose suffered severe burns after exiting the vehicle because his clothes caught fire.
Report by Figgess
He was admitted to the hospital, and although though he was awake and able to speak for a while, he passed away some hours later.
“That SC Bose died in a Taihoku Military Hospital sometime between 1900 hours and 2000 hours local time on the 18th August 1945,” Colonel John G. Figgess, a senior British intelligence officer on attachment in Tokyo, wrote in his 1946 report.
government of india on netaji’s demise
The Shah Nawaz Committee was established in 1956, the Khosla Commission was established in 1970, and the Mukherjee Commission was established in 2005 with the intention of shedding light on the events leading up to Netaji’s death or disappearance. However, none of these panels was able to provide a resolution. The Japanese government’s investigation papers, which found that Bose passed away in a plane crash in Taiwan, were declassified by the Narendra Modi administration on September 1, 2016. Additionally, according to reports, his remains may be kept at Tokyo’s Renkoji temple.
However, many still hold on to the misconception that Netaji escaped the crash and continued to live covertly. At 2006, the Manmohan Singh administration acknowledged that Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s ashes were those found in Japan’s Renkoji Temple.
What the MHA replied in response to an RTI inquiry about Netaji’s passing
In response to an RTI request from a resident of Kolkata in 2017, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) stated that the government had reached this decision after taking into account the reports of various committees that looked into the death of Bose, who many people thought had not perished in the crash. The central government, which is governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), declared that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose passed away in a plane crash in 1945, putting an end to the persistent debate about whether the independence warrior survived the incident.
Sayak Sen, the organiser of Open Platform for Netaji, requested information from the Home Ministry under the Right to Information Act on Netaji’s whereabouts after August 18, 1945. In addition to the details regarding a Gumnami Baba who lived in Uttar Pradesh in the 1980s, the plea also requested information regarding the number of files that the MHA had already declassified and the number that remained to be done so.
The Mukherjee Commission report’s pages 114–122 contain some information about Gumnami Baba and Bhagwanji, according to the RTI response to the Gumnami Baba issue. Gumnami Baba/Bhagwanji was determined by the Mukherjee Commission not to be Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The Ministry of Home Affairs declassified each of the 37 documents about Netaji Subhas chandra bose that were still accessible.
The government would declassify the documents pertaining to Netaji when Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the leader’s family in October 2015. As many as 100 confidential files were made public by PM Modi in 2016 on January 23, which was the 119th anniversary of Netaji’s birth.
The debate regarding Netaji’s passing continues to this day. The TMC has reiterated its demand for the declassification of records pertaining to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s disappearance in 1945 and urged the sending of ashes thought to be those of the freedom fighter to Japan for DNA testing. Subhash Chandra Bose undoubtedly piqued India’s interest more than any other independence fighter. His reason of death is unknown despite him being one of the most well-known leaders of the Indian independence movement.
On Parakram Diwas, we honour Netaji’s unwavering spirit and selfless dedication.
The Indian government chose to honour Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 125th birthday in 2021 by holding appropriate national and international celebrations. On the day of Netaji’s birth, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in a ceremony to honour the recipients of the Param Vir Chakra by renaming the 21 largest unidentified Andaman and Nicobar Islands islands. In addition, Modi will reveal a scale model of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose National Memorial that will be erected on the island bearing his name.
