AMRITSAR’S RECENT NEWS OF A GIRL BEING STOPPED AT THE GATE FOR WEARING A TRICOLOUR ON HER FACE
Just a few days ago, something controversial happened at the Amritsar; a video of a girl went viral. A video in which the girl stated that she was denied entry into Amritsar’s Golden Temple. And the reason for the entry denial was quoted to be the “tricolor flag pain on her face”.
The woman was seen wearing paint on her face, the paint portrays India’s tricolor flag. The woman who was on her way, into the Golden Temple was not allowed to enter the temple. And whoever denied her entry told her that she cannot enter as she has a tricolor flag on her face.
In the video that circulated on social media, the woman can be heard arguing with a sewadar insisting that she should know why she cannot be allowed to which the sewadar replied saying “This is Punjab, not India”.
The circulated video created a lot of chaos on social media and netizens are not taking it. The recent Amritpal issue and the others where some Sikh people were seen disrespecting the tricolor flag – all these issues were tolerated and now seeing something like this that too at a religious and historic monument of the nation made every Indian lose control.
People on social media also started a religious and communal war; it can be seen that all the Sikhs were being called Khalistanis, which might be because the issue looked like they differentiated the country and Punjab when they said “This is Punjab, not India”.
This issue definitely grabbed so much attention and in the evening Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami apologized for the issue and said that it wasn’t what it looked like.
He added that this doesn’t mean that they are creating a difference and anyone who spreads such false information or propaganda is considered to be breaking the Brotherhood; it was requested by him to avoid any such acts.
Harjinder Singh also condemned the sinful act of creating a controversial narrative against the Sikh community. Singh also spoke about a tweet that called the Sikhs Khalistanis; he said that it is wrong to defame the community and categorize all the Sikhs as Khalistanis.

In the later meet with media, the SGPS stated that the woman wasn’t allowed because she wasn’t following the Maryada. The Golden Temple officials mentioned that she violated the rules by wearing a skirt, which is considered as going against the temple’s Maryada; the skirt she wore was revealing her legs and that is what they said was going against the place’s culture and traditions. Also stated that every mandir has its own Maryada and has to be followed if anyone wants to enter. And that it is the respect that is paid to God.
It is still a question of how the government is going to react to this, let us await their response, and in the meanwhile, what are your thoughts about this? Please comment.
