The only place that feels free for the LGBTQIA+ to express themselves and to be themselves, is social media and especially Twitter where interactions are a lot global. The LGBTQIA+ community people consider social media platforms as a safer place to come out, but yeah, I guess not after what the CEO of the most used social media has done.
Elon Musk buying Twitter is a tragic event that is followed by many more tragic events. Musk’s changes in the functioning of the app had a huge impact on the platform’s traffic. To date, everything Musk has done wasn’t extreme and didn’t offend any user personally. But what the CEO has done now! It definitely made a deep wound in the community, this time the issue targeted trans people.
Musk always asked questions and dropped statements about trans people following which he justified them by saying “Just asking questions about trans people”. Elon often asked questions that offended the trans community.
Recently Elon followed a few accounts from his official account and all the accounts were of Transphobic people who are spreading hatred towards the community. Elon smashed the follow button of anti-LGBTQIA+ activists like the libs of TikTok who are known to have pushed the propaganda of “groomers”; Also, Tim Pool the podcast protagonist is a new member of Musk’s following list along with Dave Rubin – the conservating gay pundit (an anti-trans).
While the forest is burning on one side, Elon was seen making hatred and incendiary comments to add a little more fuel to it. Musk wrote “What’s a woman?” responding to a question put forward by YouTuber and Tesla fanatic Steven Mark Ryan. This response from Musk has been perceived as a transmisogynistic “gotcha” by trans-exclusionary feminists and Daily Wire extremist Matt Walsh.
And the most controversial statement he made in recent times about trans is when he replied to a tweet from Josie Glabach and said that anyone, be it a parent or a doctor if they sterilize a child before they are a consenting adult should be sentenced to lifelong imprisonment.
A recent update in Twitter’s conduct now removed the ban on “hate speech”, “misgendering” and “deadnaming” of trans people; which means from now the posts that are reported under these circumstances, will not be removed, instead, the tweets will be given a warning before they are viewed.
Twitter’s official account posted this update and supported it saying ‘promoting the freedom to speech’. Netizens are going bananas over the issue and were seen commenting that ‘Twitter is dead and Musk is playing on the rotting corpse of it’.
