A 31-year-old software engineer working at Adobe was allegedly beaten to death by his wife’s family following a domestic dispute at his home in Delhi’s Nihal Vihar, which has led to the arrest of four members of his in-laws’ family. The victim, Vinay Gupta, was reportedly attacked after an argument with his wife, Rekha, over giving medicine to their child.
According to the victim’s family, the argument escalated when Rekha left the house after contacting her relatives. She allegedly returned about 10 minutes later with family members, including her two brothers, sister-in-law, father and uncle. The group then allegedly assaulted Vinay inside the house.
Vinay’s family has alleged that the assault was pre-planned. Police are investigating the allegations and examining the sequence of events to determine the exact roles of everyone present at the house.
Mother Allegedly Tried To Save Son
Vinay’s mother, who was living with the couple, said she had briefly stepped away to arrange water and refreshments for the visitors. When she returned, she allegedly found her son being attacked.
According to the family, she tried to intervene and repeatedly pleaded with the attackers to stop. They alleged that Vinay was strangled and subjected to blows and kicks to his chest. His parents reportedly attempted to protect him during the assault.
The victim’s family has also alleged that Rekha switched off the CCTV cameras in the house before the incident. They believe this raises questions about whether the attack had been planned in advance. Police are examining available footage and other evidence as part of the investigation.
Promising Career Cut Short
Vinay Gupta was employed as a software engineer at Adobe and reportedly earned an annual package of around Rs 60 lakh. He had been married to Rekha for approximately three-and-a-half years.
The couple had four-and-a-half-month-old twin babies. Vinay’s death has left behind his elderly parents and two very young children. Police continue investigating the case to establish facts.
Vinay’s mother also alleged that the family had received threats from his in-laws in the past. According to her account, those warnings had not been taken seriously before the fatal incident.
She described a violent struggle in which Vinay was allegedly dragged and pinned to the bed and floor before being choked. His father also reportedly suffered a fractured thumb while attempting to intervene.
Police Register Murder Case
Following the incident, Delhi Police registered a murder case and arrested four people from Rekha’s family. The arrested suspects include Rekha, her two brothers and her sister-in-law.
Police said the incident was linked to matrimonial disputes between Vinay and Rekha. Investigators are now working to reconstruct the events leading up to the assault and establish the circumstances that resulted in Vinay’s death.
A key part of the investigation is the allegation that CCTV cameras were switched off before the assault. Police are reviewing available footage and other evidence to determine whether the cameras were deliberately disabled and whether the sequence supports the allegations made by Vinay’s family.
Vinay was taken to a nearby hospital by his family and neighbours after the alleged assault. However, he reportedly suffered severe internal injuries and could not be saved.
The case has drawn attention to the potential escalation of domestic disputes into deadly violence. As the investigation continues, police are expected to question the accused and witnesses, examine evidence, and establish the sequence of events.
The allegations made by Vinay’s family remain subject to investigation, and the role of each accused person will be determined through the legal process.
