Amit Shah Receives a Security Request from Congress for Rahul Gandhi, and Central Force Responds
After writing to Home Minister Amit Shah on behalf of the Congress and stating that Delhi Police had failed to ensure Rahul Gandhi’s security, the central force responded.
The central paramilitary force CRPF has responded to the Congress’ allegations of security lapses during the December 24 march by claiming that Rahul Gandhi breached security protocol on many instances during the Delhi leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
The central force’s reaction came a day after Congress national secretary KC Venugopal complained in a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah that Delhi Police had failed utterly to assure Mr. Gandhi’s protection while the Yatra moved through the city. The party asked for adequate protection for the leader, who has Z+ cover, while the yatra passes through sensitive areas of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.
In their rejoinder, the CRPF claimed that security arrangements for Mr. Gandhi were prepared by the CRPF in collaboration with the state police and other organisations. According to the force, a security liaison meeting for the event on December 24 was held two days in advance. A gathering of security agencies is referred to as an advance security liaison in order to organise a VIP’s security for a significant event.
The CRPF said that all security precautions were rigorously observed on the day of the march, and Delhi Police reported that enough security personnel had been deployed.
He claimed that Rahul Gandhi had regularly violated security protocol “When the protected himself follows the established security criteria, the security measures put in place for him or her function as intended. However, it is noted that Shri Rahul Gandhi has been found to have violated established rules on numerous times, and this fact has occasionally been shared with him.”
Gandhi, according to the paramilitary force, has violated protocol 113 times since 2020. It further said that the protected had broken security rules during the Bharat Jodo Yatra’s Delhi leg and that the CRPF will handle this issue independently.
The Delhi Police, which is part of the Home Ministry, was accused by the Congress yesterday of having “totally failed” to manage the swarming crowd and establish a perimeter” around Mr. Gandhi during the march on December 24.
A security perimeter had to be formed by Congress workers and Bharat Yatris who were accompanying Mr. Gandhi since the situation was so dire, it was noted. It claimed that the Delhi Police were “silent spectators.”
