As a result of reports that Surya unlocked the IndiGo aeroplane departure door, the opposition calls the BJP “VIP Brats.”
The IndiGo Airline stated that “the passenger instantly apologised for the action,” even though it declined to share on the person’s identify.
In response to media accusations that the leader of the BJP Yuva Morcha was the traveller who unintentionally unlocked the emergency exit of an IndiGo plane, the opposition, including the Congress, targeted Tejasvi Surya, a BJP member from Bengaluru South.
According to a statement released by IndiGo on Tuesday, a passenger on flight 6E 7339 from Chennai to Tiruchirapalli on December 10 of last year unintentionally unlocked the emergency escape as the plane was boarding.
The airline said that after boarding the IndiGo aircraft at the Chennai airport, the passenger opened the emergency escape. The airline further claimed that while the aircraft was on the ground, it underwent the necessary engineering inspections before taking off towards Tiruchirapalli.
According to eyewitnesses cited in media accounts, Bengaluru South MP Surya, 32, was the passenger who unlocked the emergency gate. A significant political controversy resulted from HT’s inability to independently confirm the veracity of the reports.
Why the administration hid the occurrence for such a long time has been questioned by the Congress. Surya and his office have not yet responded to the accusations.
BJP VIP Brats, The! How blatantly rude of the airline! Is it typical for the BJP’s ruling class? Did it endanger travellers’ safety? Ohhh! U cannot inquire about the entitled VIPs of the BJP! Randeep Singh Surjewala, a congressman, tweeted.
Priyanka Chaturvedi, a Shiv Sena MP, questioned, “Has @IndiGo6E reported this event to @DGCAIndia? Shouldn’t one consider this incident suo moto? Should an apology be sufficient if this occurred after the plane had taken off rather than while it was still on the runway?
She continued, “According to @thenewsminute, the DGCA was not aware of this infringement that occurred on December 10, 2022, at the Chennai Airport, aboard an IndiGo flight from Chennai to Trichy. When will @IndiGo6E receive a notification from @DGCAIndia regarding this violation?
The airline said the passenger “immediately apologised for the behaviour,” though it declined to elaborate on the customer’s identification. The aircraft underwent required engineering checks as per SOPs, which caused a delay in the flight’s departure, according to the statement.
According to a DGCA official who spoke to HT under the condition of anonymity, they were alerted about the occurrence and it seems the passenger opened the gate “by mistake.”
