On Tuesday, an earthquake with a Richter rating of 5.4 shook Delhi-NCR and surrounding regions.

The earthquake, which began close to the isolated village of Gandoh Bhalessa in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda region, struck around 1:33 p.m., according to authorities.

The National Centre for Seismology tweeted, “Earthquake of Magnitude:5.4, Occurred on 13-06-2023, 13:33:42 IST, Lat: 33.15 & Long: 75.82, Depth: 6 Km, Location: Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, India.”

A moderate-sized earthquake occurred on Tuesday in Jammu and Kashmir, while no injuries or property damage has yet been recorded.

The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reports that at 1:33 PM, there was an earthquake in the UT with a Richter magnitude of 5.4.

Cities like Chandigarh, Jaipur, and other areas in Jammu and Kashmir felt the effects of the earthquakes. Unexpectedly, the earthquake’s strength caused it to be felt as far away as Islamabad, Lahore, and other Pakistani cities.

The core of the earthquake occurred in the Doda district of the Jammu division. It happened 30 kilometres under the surface of the planet.

Latitude 33.12 degrees north and longitude 75.98 degrees east are its coordinates, according to the authorities.

Kashmir is in a seismically active region with significant seismic sensitivity.

A Srinagar resident who witnessed the effect said, “The earthquake scared schoolchildren. Shop customers rushed out. It scared me. The tremors from previous week weren’t as strong as this one. Officials have verified that on June 10, an additional earthquake with a magnitude of 3.9 jolted Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir, with its epicentre in Ladakh.

In the past, earthquakes caused damage in this area.
