Here is no reason for assault…”: White House on assaults on Indian students in the United States
The White House, which is where the President of the United States lives and works, has spoken out about recent attacks on Indian students in the US. They said that violence against people because of their race, gender, or any other reason is wrong and not acceptable in the US. A person named John Kirby, who works there, said that President Joe Biden and his team are trying really hard to stop these kinds of attacks from happening.
When asked about the recent attacks on Indian students and parents being worried about sending their kids to the US, Kirby said, “There’s no excuse for violence, whether it’s because of someone’s race, gender, religion, or anything else. That’s just not okay in the United States. The President and his team are working very hard with local authorities to stop these attacks and make it clear that anyone who does this will be punished.”
These comments come at a time when there have been more attacks and deaths among Indians and Indian-Americans in the US.
One example is a 41-year-old man of Indian origin who died in the US on February 7. He was badly hurt in an attack in downtown Washington and later died from his injuries. His name was Vivek Taneja, and he was from Alexandria, Virginia.
The attack happened on February 2, around 2:00 a.m. According to the police report, Taneja was taken to the hospital after the assault. The Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement quoted by ANI news agency, “On Friday, February 2, 2024, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Second District officers responded to the listed location for reports of an assault.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.”
These incidents highlight the need to address violence and discrimination against people from different backgrounds in the US. The White House’s statement emphasizes that such behavior is unacceptable and that measures are being taken to prevent and punish those responsible.
