KHALISTANI MOVEMENT
The Khalistan Movement is a Sikh nationalist movement that seeks the establishment of an independent nation of Khalistan, to be located in the Punjab region of India and Pakistan.
This act seeks separation of the Punjab state from India and to be named Khalistan as a separate sovereign state for the Sikhs.
The action took birth in the late 1970s and has since been supported by various Sikh organizations and individuals.
Aroor Singh and Sukhvinder Singh Babbar are co-founders of this riotous movement formed the Khalistan Liberation Force.
Khalistan Liberation Force is group of militants that takes the huge part of many protests that take birth from the Khalistani movement.
KLF operations date back to 1986 and to date. KLF was a prime accused of numerous bombings in India during the 1980s and 1990s.
KLF is also said to have ties with the Kashmir separatists. This movement has been pronounced as violent, including the 1984 Operation Blue Star and the subsequent anti-Sikh riots in India.
The movement has seen a resurgence in recent years, with a growing number of Sikhs advocating for a separate state.
Supporters of the Khalistan Movement argue that it is the only way for Sikhs to protect their culture and identity from the majority Hindu population in India.
Opponents of the Khalistan Movement argue that it would lead to further violence and destabilization in the region.
The opposition party also highlighted that India is home for every religion and so there is not a single way they’d agree for a separation.
In 2017 a series of murders took place in Punjab and most of the deceased were members or workers of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, pastors and many more. This act was also suspected to have a hand of the Khalistani extremists
In recent years, the Indian government has taken a hard line on the Khalistan Movement, banning any talk of a separate state.
In 2018 on December 26, a notification was passed that an arrest warrant under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, will be issues to the supporters of the protests in the name of separate state.
Despite this, the movement continues to gain traction, and there are ongoing efforts to push for its realization.
A new phase of the Khalistani movement is now being carried by Amritpal Singh.
Amritpal Singh Sandhu who came back to India from UAE during the Farmers protest in 2019, returned to Dubai as soon as the farm laws were withdrawn.
Amritpal Singh is the successor of Deep Sindhu who is the first Jathedar of Warsi Panjab De. Deep Sindhu’s death was sudden and was proceeded with a anonymous letter stating that Amritpal is appointed as the leader of the organization.
Amritpal was recently under arrest as a primary accused under section 2(3) of National Security Act. And reports say that Amritpal escaped the police and might have left Pujab.
The recent news revealed that Amritpal Singh is not actually announced as the leader of the organization, is actually self-proclaimed.
It’s still a going on search for Amritpal who escaped six days ago. It remains to be seen whether the Khalistan Movement will eventually succeed in its goal of creating an independent nation.
