Rahul Gandhi granted bail in defamation case after court appearance.
Court mandates two bail bonds of Rs 25,000 each for Rahul.
In Sultanpur, a special court gave Rahul Gandhi bail on Tuesday. The case was about defamation from 2018. Rahul Gandhi had to surrender in court today. The court kept him for about 30-45 minutes. Then, they accepted his bail application. They didn’t set a new date for the case yet.
The court told Rahul to give two bail bonds, each worth Rs 25,000. The case started when Vijay Mishra filed it on August 4, 2018. Rahul Gandhi supposedly said something about Amit Shah during a press conference in Bengaluru on May 8, 2018. He said the BJP is led by someone accused in a murder case. This comment upset Vijay Mishra, so he filed a case.
Amit Shah was the BJP President when Rahul made that comment. But, a few years before that, a special CBI court in Mumbai said Amit Shah was innocent in a 2005 case. Amit Shah was in charge of Gujarat at that time.
Rahul Gandhi couldn’t come to the last court date on January 18. He was busy with another event called Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
Vijay Mishra, the person who filed the case, said it’s wrong to call someone like Amit Shah a murderer. He thinks the BJP, Amit Shah’s party, is very important in the country.
Overall, the court said Rahul Gandhi could leave after he paid the bail bonds. But the case isn’t finished yet. They’ll have more hearings later.
