Telangana Tops Nation in Recovering Lost Mobile Phones with CEIR Portal
Telangana has emerged as a frontrunner in India’s battle against lost and stolen mobile phones, securing the top spot in recovery rates thanks to the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. The state’s police force has managed to trace an impressive 68% of lost or missing mobile phones, a feat that has earned them national recognition. Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have secured the second and third positions, with recovery rates of 54% and 51% respectively.
An accolade that showcases the state’s dedication to harnessing technology for public welfare, the achievement was lauded by Telangana’s Director General of Police (DGP), Anjani Kumar. He congratulated the nodal officer, ADG CID, and the entire team for their relentless efforts. The collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications (DOT) Hyderabad was instrumental in achieving this remarkable feat.
“We remain committed to serving society in a better way. Also, congratulations to CP Cyb, CP Hyd, CP Rchk, CP Wrgl, CP Nzb,” expressed Anjani Kumar, emphasizing the collective effort that contributed to this success.
The CEIR portal, developed by the Department of Telecommunications, aims to combat mobile phone theft and counterfeit mobiles. Its services were introduced in Telangana on April 19 of the current year. This marked the inception of a game-changing initiative in the state’s fight against mobile-related crimes. To ensure the seamless implementation of the CEIR portal, around 60 personnel underwent training, and CEIR user IDs were distributed to all 780 police stations across 31 police units in Telangana.
The state was chosen as the pilot project destination for the CEIR portal, with guidance provided by S.M. Vijay Kumar from the intelligence department. The success achieved by Telangana in this endeavour is testament to the meticulous planning and execution that went into the project’s launch.
The initial results have been staggering, with CEIR aiding in the tracing of over 1,000 lost or missing mobile phones within its first month of operation. Additionally, an impressive 1,160 mobile phones were tracked down in just 25 days. These numbers underscore the significance of this technology-driven initiative in addressing a pervasive issue faced by mobile phone users.
Telangana’s achievement not only showcases the state’s technological prowess but also underscores the potential of collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and government bodies. The CEIR portal stands as a beacon of hope in the ongoing struggle against mobile phone theft, promising a safer digital landscape for citizens. As Telangana leads the nation in mobile phone recovery rates, it sets a remarkable precedent for other states to follow suit and leverage technology for societal betterment.
