United World Wrestling (UWW) going to be Banned Wrestling Federation of India (WFI)
30 May 2023, United World Wrestling (UWW) come up with a statement and said, “Government must take serious note of wrestlers’ protests in India, that kind of invents very disappointing to Indian wrestlers. If this matter not going to solve in 45 days, then we must take serious action against WFI and put a temporary ban on WFI.
On 28 May, when wrestlers decided to protest in front of the parliament and conduct a rally against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Wrestlers do not get permission from Delhi Police and without Permission, they could not protest but they do. That is why the Police detain them and filed FIR. When this incident happened UWW decided to act.
Last month, United World Wrestling president Nenad Lalovic write a letter to WFI, asking for clarity on who going to be President of WFI. After serious allegations against Brij Bhushan Singh, He was removed to President of WFI. UWW also write a letter to IOA and IOC. UWW decided to meet Indian wrestlers for their security and situation.
India’s top wrestlers reached Haridwar on 30 May to immerse their medals in the Ganga rival as a show of protest against Brij Bhushan Singh. The reason is Government not taking any on Brij Bhushan Singh. Wrestlers said that there are very serious cases of him with harassment of a minor girl, them why the government is scared to act against him.
Naresh Tikait, (who is also a politician), give assorted to wrestlers that they must give him the 5-day time he does something for them. And Wrestlers agree on it.
Now this protest going is going in the wrong direction because Anurag Thakur (Sports Minister) said that they are doing their work. They filed FIR on the WFI president with the POCSO act, they remove him, create a committee for investigation, and the Police also doing their investigation. That kind of case takes some time and we have to do our investigation legally.
