Das, who received the renowned “Jaydev Puraskar” award from the state government for her lifelong contributions to the Odia cinema industry, was afflicted with an age-related condition. According to family sources, she passed away on Thursday night.

President Droupadi Murmu expressed sorrow over Jharana Das’ passing and said the renowned actress would be remembered for her work in the Odia film industry forever. Jharana Das, who was born in 1945, began her acting career in the 1960s and received numerous awards for her outstanding work in classic movies including “Shree Jagannath,” “Nari,” “Adinamegha,” “Hisabnikas,” “Pujafula,” “Amadabata,” “Abhinetri,” “Malajanha,” and “Heera Nella.”

Das had previously worked for All India Radio (AIR), Cuttack, as a young announcer and artist. She had previously worked for Doordarshan in Cuttack as an assistant station director.
