BJP calls Swati Maliwal’s case a “drama” and a “false sting,” and the DCW chief responds
Swati Maliwal claimed that she was carried for 10 to 15 metres by a drunken man’s automobile outside AIIMS when she was being raped by him during a nighttime inspection and had her hand caught in the car’s window.
After several Bharat Janata Party leaders questioned her allegations of molestation, the head of the Delhi Commission for Women, Swati Maliwal, lashed out on Saturday at “those who think they will scare me,” alleging that the accuser is an Aam Aadmi Party member and that her “drama” was a part of a conspiracy that has since been “exposed.”
“Let me tell people who think they can intimidate me by spreading false information about me. I have accomplished a great deal in my brief life by wearing a shroud over my head. I experienced several attacks, but I persisted. The flame inside of me got hotter with each atrocity. Nobody is able to silence me. As long as I am still alive, I will fight! Tweeted Maliwal
Maliwal claimed that she was carried for 10 to 15 metres by a drunken man’s car outside AIIMS when she was being raped by him during a nighttime inspection and had her hand caught in the car’s window. An arrest was made for the suspect, a 47-year-old guy. Several BJP politicians attacked Maliwal, an AAP appointee, after a video of the incident appeared.
Maliwal’s “drama” has been revealed, according to a tweet from BJP politician Shazia Ilmi.
“@AamAadmiParty and… conducted a sting operation to malign Delhi and its police, raising severe concerns about its reliability. On the serious subject of women’s protection, is cynical politics acceptable? her query.
By engaging in such drama, according to former DCW chief Barkha Shukla Singh, Maliwal shouldn’t undermine women.
Harish Chandra Suryavanshi, who was charged with harassing Maliwal, is actually a well-known Aam Aadmi Party activist in Sangam Vihar, according to Delhi BJP working president Virendra Sachdeva.
The accused is seen campaigning alongside AAP MLA Prakash Jarwal in a picture that Sachdeva shared. With the exposure of the photo and Suryavanshi’s history, Sachdeva claimed that “it is now obvious that the incident was a conspiracy by AAP to discredit Delhi worldwide by portraying the city as unsafe for women.”
The same Harish was driving the automobile, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari claimed in a related charge. By glancing at this photo, one can infer how close this person is to AAP MLA Prakash Jarwal.
“If this is a partner, then the entire affair is like a phoney sting that was carried out via a private channel,” he continued. For Delhi, this is a disturbing development. What kind of image are those who represent Delhi and those who have been elected by Delhi seeking to project? We don’t claim that such a thing hasn’t happened or can’t happen. But why was it necessary to stage this sting? Why did the woman who is standing there round the vehicle and enter from the opposite side? She can be seen placing her hand into the automobile on camera as well.
Police said they had found video showing Maliwal being allegedly abused by an intoxicated guy and being carried by his automobile for 10 to 15 metres with her hand caught in the glass.
The DCW director said that following the Kanjhawla hit-and-run event, in which a 20-year-old woman was dragged to death while caught under a car in the nation’s capital, she was examining the situation of women’s security in Delhi with her team.
During the inspection, Maliwal’s team was present but stationed a distance away.
Around 3.05 in the morning, a patrol vehicle spotted her on the sidewalk beside AIIMS and asked if she was in trouble, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chandan Chowdhary. Maliwal described her story to the police, who located the car and detained the driver, Harish Chandra.
