Heatwave warning! IMD estimates extreme temperatures in These states till June 20.
In various states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are expected until tomorrow, Tuesday, June 20.
From June 18 to 20, there is a chance that areas of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Telangana will experience a heatwave to a severe heatwave. The meteorological service said that on June 18 and 19, severe thunderstorms would be present in East Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and East Uttar Pradesh.
Over the past several days, at least 96 people have perished in two of India’s most populous states, while large portions of the nation are still suffering from a brutal heatwave.
Authorities issued warnings to individuals over the age of 60 and those suffering from different illnesses to stay inside during the afternoon in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh and eastern Bihar, where the deaths occurred.
Nearly 300 kilometers (200 miles) to the southeast of Lucknow, the state capital, in the Ballia region, there have been 54 recorded fatalities in Uttar Pradesh. The majority of people who passed away were over 60 and had pre-existing health concerns, according to the authorities, which the extreme heat may have made worse. However, heatwave-related deaths have not yet been formally identified as the cause of death. A Lucknow-based investigation team is looking into the causes of deaths in the Ballia area.
The weather forecasting organization advises staying hydrated (even if you’re not thirsty) and protecting yourself from the sun by using light-coloured cotton clothing, an umbrella, sunglasses, etc.
The state’s temperatures are now above average, according to IMD scientist Atul Kumar Singh, who also stated that “no relief is expected in the next 24 hours.”
The meteorological service is predicting extremely heavy falls across Northeast India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim over the next several days, thus some locations will have a reprieve from the oppressive heat.
According to the IMD’s perspective, the southwest monsoon will continue to progress across some more regions of the south peninsula, East India, and surrounding territories between June 19 and 22.
IMD predicts cloudy conditions with light rain or thundershowers and gusty winds for Delhi in regard to rainfall. The low temperature in the national capital on Sunday was somewhat higher than the seasonal norm at 28.6 degrees Celsius.
Under the influence of cyclonic storm Biparjoy, Rajasthan’s Barmer district saw severe rain on Sunday. Severe floods and waterlogging occurred in a number of other regions.
The Brahmaputra River in Assam saw a rise in water level as a result of nonstop rain. Rain also lashed North Sikkim heavily on June 16, confining tourists there.
From June 17 to 19, extremely heavy rain is also anticipated to occur across Assam and Meghalaya, according to IMD.
