30+ DAYS AFTER HIS ESCAPE, NOW AMRITPAL SINGH IS BEHIND BARS AGAIN

AFTER HIS SUCCESSFUL ESCAPE ON 18 MARCH, FINALLY AMRITPAL SINGH SURRENDERED HIMSELF TO THE POLICE

Amritpal Singh who is very well-known as the Khalistani leader surrendered himself to the police in Punjab’s Moga district in the village of Rode. The fugitive was on a run for nearly a month before he was caught by the Punjab police. Amritpal was in a Gurdwara when he was arrested at around 6:45 pm. His arrest involved police surrounding the village and the Gurudwara and then tackling him.

Senior Police Officer, Sukhchain Singh Gil stated that as the accused was in a sacred place – the Gurudwara, they stayed back and waited outside the place and remained calm to not cause any disturbance in the holy place. And as Amritpal had no choice he had to surrender himself.

After the surrender, Amrit was cuffed and taken into custody under the stringent National Security Act (NSA), and also under the Arms Act. He was under the Arms Acts because of the huge gun stock found with his aides by the police. After being taken to the prison, from Punjab, the Khalistani leader was shifted to Dibrugarh of Assam. Previously Amritpal’s aids Papal Preet and others were also arrested and shifted to Dibrugarh.

The reason for them being flown from Punjab to Assam’s Dibrugarh was stated by the police and as per the statement the only reason for not keeping them in Punjab jails and Delhi jails is to have them avoid being in contact with any other gangsters with the same separatist notions.

If we look into the details of the Sikh leader; Amritpal claimed to be the Jathedar of the Waris Punjab De. Deep Sindhu, the original Jathedar of Waris Punjab De, was succeeded by Amritpal Singh. An anonymous letter announcing that Amritpal had been chosen to lead the group emerged after Deep Sindhu’s untimely death.

Amritpal who took over the position of chief of Waris Punjab De became a pro-Khalistan supporter and drove people towards the separatist notion. The group and the leader aimed for a separate nation for the Sikh religion and also had a name for it – Khalistan.

Amritpal was arrested previously but got himself out by escaping with his aide and managed to play hide-and-seek with the Punjab police for 37 days. during these 37 days, police tried their best in hunting down the fugitive and also tried to get hold of the accused’s wife. Amritpal was said to have undergone multiple changes in styles to not get caught but now that the main accused is in custody it is in the police’s hands what to do.
