NATO OPENING ITS 1ST OFFICE IN ASIA IN JAPAN

THE MILITARY ALLIANCE NATO TO COME AND OPEN ITS FIRST OFFICE IN ASIA IN JAPAN

The NATO–National Atlantic Treaty Organization is an alliance between the militaries of countries and their governments. This intergovernmental organization to date did not make its move into the Asian continent but now the news is all past.

Recent news is that NATO is planning to open its liaison office in Japan. The news is confirmed following the agreement between the organization and Japanese officials; although the news is confirmed, the date nor any further information is provided. This step toward Asia might be taken in order to coordinate with its ally countries and maintain close partnerships with the Indo-Pacific region which includes Australia, Japan, South Korea, and New Zealand.

The new liaison office in the topic will open next year in Japan’s Tokyo and is going to be the first office in Asia that is going to make it possible for the military coalition to engage in frequently scheduled meetings with Japan as well as significant partners such as Australia. This soon-to-be-opened office will be a hub for all allies such as Australia, South Korea, Japan, and New Zealand.

But this decision by NATO somehow is controversial as it means North Atlantic Treaty Organization and hence its focus is limited to the North Atlantic region only and now, they are joining Japan which is in the Pacific and outside the NATO’s focus area.

It is also reported that this coalition also is a tactic to tackle and put an end to cyber threats, false pieces of information, and also emerging disruptive technology. Another advantage that the West is seeing is that this will give them a chance to attract criticism from China. Because recently Chinese government warned the Western regarding its plans of extending its roots to the Asia-Pacific region. In the last year’s NATO summit, which was attended by South Korea, New Zealand, and Australia, it designated China as a security challenge and now this explains NATO’s move.

China reacted to this and stated that this move by the West is to push Asia toward conflicts and that this will disturb regional peace and stability. It might also be an issue to be considered because NATO’s past is full of blood and where ever they go there were wars and blood. Countries like Yugoslavia, and Afghanistan are two countries that had to endure a rough past due to NATO; this shows that NATO is purely a power play of military services.

Considering this, it is a question of how will the other countries treat and react to this coalition of NATO and Japan. Well, this question is bound to the countries and Japan is clear about what they are doing as the prime minister justified this move saying it is to avoid the East-Asia from becoming like Ukraine.
