Prime Minister Modi Prepares to Address No-Confidence Motion with Confidence
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to respond to the no-confidence motion put forth by the Opposition against his government. His address to the House is anticipated at 4 pm.
Following two intense days of debate on the no-confidence motion, which is currently in its final stage today, PM Modi’s reply comes into focus. The motion, initiated by the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) citing concerns over the Manipur violence, will be addressed by the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with key ministers, strategized on the government’s response to the no-confidence motion presented by the opposition. However, it’s important to note that the Modi-led government is not likely to be ousted through this motion due to their majority in the Lok Sabha. The BJP, along with its allies, controls a significant number of seats, rendering the motion’s success improbable.
In the Lok Sabha, any member with the backing of 50 colleagues can introduce a motion of no-confidence against the Council of Ministers. Subsequently, a comprehensive debate takes place, with proponents of the motion outlining the government’s perceived shortcomings. On the other hand, representatives from the Treasury Benches respond to these concerns. Ultimately, a voting process ensues, and if the motion garners enough support, the government is compelled to step down from office.
The NDA alliance, led by the BJP, commands a robust majority in the Lok Sabha. With a total of 331 MPs, including 303 from the BJP, they enjoy a substantial advantage over the opposition coalition, named I.N.D.I.A, which comprises 144 members. Furthermore, there are 70 unaligned party MPs in the Lower House, playing a potential role in the discussions.
