THE 5-TIME CM OF PUNJAB – PRAKASH SINGH BADAL IS NO MORE
EX-CM PRAKASH SINGH’S DEMISE ON TUESDAY; HOLIDAY DECLARED ON THURSDAY BY PUNJAB GOVT
Prakash Singh Badal – a prominent person from Punjab political history took his last breath on Tuesday. The government of Punjab declared an official holiday on Thursday in honor of the late ex-CM.
Prakash Singh Badal, his name has a list of records in the Punjab’s political history. He is Punjabi’s oldest politician who is aged 95 at the time of his death. His death happened in Punjab’s Mohali on Tuesday i.e., 25-04-23.
He is a loyalist whose politics are focused on the general well-being of the state; that explains why people chose him to take the lead 5 times. Prakash’s political career started in 1947 when he was elected as the Sarpanch of the Badal village. Following the Sarpanch posting Badal went on to being the Chairman of Block Samiti, Lambi.
After his posting as the Chairman of Block Samiti, he stepped into Punjab politics and put a start to it. The late politician was in politics for more than seven decades, starting from 1947 to 2017 when he finally stepped down. Singh has a record of having his hands on the CM seat 5 times.
The dedicated politician was in politics no matter what; he never got off or stepped out of Punjab’s political game. He was there as a CM, and if not, CM he was an MLA, if not MLA he was MP, if not MP he was the Deputy CM, and if not any of those, he was there at least as a lead in the opposition party.
He spent half of his life on Earth in politics; he was born in 1927 which means he was 30 when he stepped into politics. His political life is something to talk about – he was Punjab’s elected CM 5 times, was in the MLA seat 11 times, and was a one-time deputy CM, and Panchayat Chairperson. During his time in politics, he also worked as the Minister of Community Development, Animal Husbandry, Dairying, and Fishery.
His 5-time CM win is a piece of tremendous news; Badal was the youngest to become the CM when he first took the lead of Akali Dal – Sant Fateh Singh and Jana Sangh’s coalition government in 1970. And after that, Singh became CM again in 1997, 2007, and 2012.
His contributions to the state of Punjab were appreciated and in 2015, Singh was honored with India’s second-highest civilian award, Padma Vibhushan by the Indian Government. Although the great personality is no more, he will forever be remembered by the people for what he has done for the people.
